EP 062 | JANUARY 11, 2023Questions On Being Service-OrientedJohna and Greg discuss service-oriented networking and the challenges of defining and delivering network services. They explore the negative impact of siloed organizational structures on service delivery and the importance of continuous adaptation in infrastructure management. They debate the perception of services by users, using metaphors like sidewalks and electricity, and the importance of defining what a network service should entail. | LISTEN NOW |
EP 142 | JANUARY 11, 2023IPv6 Basics – Why We Need IPv6 And How It’s Different From IPv4We kick off 2024 with a new limited series called “IPv6 Basics” for those listeners who might be new to this protocol or would like a refresher. Ed and Scott start with why IPv6 was needed and how it is different (and the same) as IPv4. Topics discussed include early drivers for IPv6 development, IPv6 and IPv4 similarities and differences, and what we got right and wrong about IPv6 and whether we could we have done anything about it. | LISTEN NOW |

EP 716 | JANUARY 12, 2023Design-Driven Network Automation And AssuranceAt AutoCon0 in November 2023, guest Jeremy Schulman delivered a talk from the main stage about delivering network assurance. If the term “network assurance” doesn’t mean anything to you, think about how you prove after an install or a change that the network is doing what it’s supposed to be doing. If you’re doing it by hand, you’re doing a lot of logging into devices to see that routing adjacencies are what they should be, that there’s reachability, and so on. What if you could automate all of that? How would you do that? Where would you even start? Jeremy has ideas. | LISTEN NOW |

A Model Of Packet-Forwarding Devices: The Model Series
Most network models stop with transporting data. Focusing on transporting data from “the outside” makes sense because networks are designed and built to move data. But restricting ourselves to transport—even if we include routing protocols—will never give us a complete picture of the entire forwarding path or network. We also need a model for middleboxes, like routers and switches, and for hosts. This post will consider a rough packet forwarding model. READ NOW
